Recession causes ECB disk storage declines

The recession had a negative effect on the global external controller-based (ECB) disk storage market last year, causing it to decline for the first time since 2002, it has been revealed.

Gartner announced that there has been an 8.6 year on year decline, taking revenue from $18 billion (£11.9 billion) in 2008 to $16.3 billion in 2009.

Although this has been a global problem, the organisation revealed that Japan, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa have been the "most acutely affected regions".

Discussing the findings, Roger Cox, research vice-president at Gartner, said that this reflects "the advancements that the lower-cost modular disk array systems have made in performance and capacity scalability".

He added that developments in the robust data services associated with remote and local replication have also affected the ECB market.

Gartner recently announced that its Customer 360 Summit will take place from June 18th to 30th in Los Angeles, with a focus on business and IT collaboration and how to get the most out of the partnership.
