'Digital Swiss Army Knife' uses sensors for security

The famed makers of the Swiss Army Knife have produced an ultra-secure memory stick which uses thermal sensors and fingerprint identification to protect people's valuable data.

So secure is the means of gaining access to its data, the company claims that a finger detached from the body will still be refused, thanks to the thermal sensor.

In a feature reminiscent of a James Bond film, the company has said that "any attempt to forcibly open it triggers a self-destruct mechanism" which destroys the chip and central processing unit.

Victorinox Secure has been unveiled at an event at the company's European flagship store in the heart of London.

During the two-hour event, a team of professional hackers was offered a £100,000 prize if they could break down its sensory technology, which they could not.

The firm's chief executive Carl Elsener Jr called it the "Digital Swiss Army Knife" and believes it bears some of the classic hallmarks of its more famous stable mate.

He said: "We wanted to create not only a product for today's modern lifestyle but a new generation of memory stick that had all the values of functionality and reliability that the iconic Swiss Army Knife has come to represent."
