Global semiconductor firm produces space saving converter

A leading global manufacturer in the discrete and analogue semiconductor market has unveiled a high-frequency converter said to save space and be more efficicent.

Diodes Incorporated, which has its headquarters in Texas, has released the AP5100 step-down converter designed for television set-top boxes, modems and distributed power applications.

Within its concise six-pin SOT26 frame, it features a built-in power MOFSET and internal compensation that the manufacturer believes will limit external component requirements.

Another feature of the new converter is its enable pin that allows the AP5100 to go on standby, thus using only 0.1 uA.

It also features a self-protection "on-chip thermal shutdown" and an over-current protection mechanism designed to ensure reliability over a long period of time.

The firm's wide-ranging repertoire includes producing diodes, power management solutions and hall-effect and temperature sensors.

In addition to facilities in Texas and California, Diodes Incorporated has manufacturing bases in western Europe, as well as Taiwan and China.
