Component firm 'ramps up' capacitor shipments

A Taiwanese company is ready to accelerate its shipments of polymer aluminium electrolytic capacitors (SP-Caps) by 25 per cent during the second quarter of 2010, according to its chairman.

Passive component distributor Podak is responding to demand flat panels, notebook computers and motherboards.

As a consequence, shipments of S-Caps will increase from 30 million to 40 million units over the next three months.

The company is aggressively expanding its capacitor shipment after it reported an increase in monthly revenue of 13.3 per cent after it generated NT238 million (£4.9 million) and NT700 million for the first quarter of this year, Digitimes reports.

SP-Caps currently account for around 60 per cent of the firm's total revenues.

Elsewhere, a report on the ceramic capacitor industry revealed that producers are spending more on research and development.

According to the Ceramic Capacitors World Review, manufacturers are eager to find alternative dieletrics such as aluminium and tantalum.
