&lt;span&gt;Sensors may play an important role in fast and easy do-it-yourself tests for deep vein thrombosis (DVT), according to new research.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Scientists at the German research institute Fraunhofer IZM have unveiled a measuring device that can quickly spot a person at risk of developing DVT and such is the speed of use, its creators believe it can be operated on long-haul flights.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Passengers would relinquish just one drop of blood for the device to work&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Furthermore, it is hoped production of the chip and its incorporated sensors can be manufactured in plastic to lower costs and possibly introduce disposable measuring systems&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Professor Karlheinz Bock, head of polytronic systems at the institute, commented that the device highlighted the possibilities for the sector and suggested such systems were needed for a &amp;amp;quot;networked world&amp;amp;quot;.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;He added &amp;amp;quot;The sensor wristband demonstrates the potential that lies within the flexible electronics mounted on foils.&amp;amp;quot;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;This news comes in a week when many European airline passengers have been met with mass cancellations due to a cloud of volcanic ash, which left many customers stranded.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=19737303"&gt;&lt;img alt="ADNFCR-1785-ID-19737303-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=19737303" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
