Vishay unveils "space-level" solid tantalum chip capacitor

An American component manufacturer has unveiled a new range of solid tantalum chip capacitors that are approved for "space-level" applications.

Vishay Intertechnology (Vishay) announced the release of its CWR06 and CWR16 components, which had to undergo additional testing to achieve its "T"-level requirements to be ready for such products.

Its rigorous examination included tightened raw material control, a destructive physical analysis, 100 per cent visual and X-ray inspection and a 2,000-hour life test before being passed for shipment.

According to the firm, the CWR06 produces a capacitance range of 0.10 to 100 microfarads over voltage ratings from four to 50 working voltage direct current (WVDC), for "high-reliability applications".

The CWR16's ranges from 0.33 to 330 microfarads over voltage ratings from four to 35 WVDC.

Earlier this week, Premier Farnell reported about Vishay hailing its latest wet tantalum capacitor as a "major breakthrough" as a result of its unique cathode system.
