Manufacturer announces high CRI lighting LEDs

A Japanese electronics manufacturer has unveiled a series of new lighting LEDs that improve colour rendering.

Sharp has released new additions to its DoubleDome series of products incorporating three white light diodes on a ceramic plate, which acts as the LED carrier material rather than the plastic materials usually used by the firm.

According to Electronics Weekly, the products achieve a colour rendering index of 85  though this comes at the expense of efficiency.

The DoubleDome LEDs light conversion layer is now based on a two-phase production procedure. Firstly a layer of phosphorous is applied to convert white light, then a top made from transparent silicone extracts light while cutting spreading losses.

The HCR LEDs are approximately equivalent to conventional fluorescent tubes with regard to their efficiency, colour temperature and colour rendering index, the company said.

Sharp, which employs more than 60,000 people around the globe, is the worlds leading company in the production of devices and solutions that reduce semiconductor parts and board size.
