Worldwide semiconductor sales increase in March

Global sales of semiconductors increased during recent months thanks to "healthy demand", according to new figures

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reported that revenues for March 2010 were $23.1 billion (£15.3 billion), a 4.6 per cent increase from February ($22 billion).

Global sales were also up by almost 60 per cent on the same time last year and a period the SIA branded the lowest point for the industry.

The association's president George Scalise noted that the new data is a record for the month of March and second only to the bumper sales period reported in November 2007

He stated that demand from "major end markets" had boosted first quarter revenue of this year to almost $70 billion, but expected a strong year of moderate growth, continuing the recovery of the semiconductor industry.

In addition, the popularity of PCs and mobile phones was a major contributor, which echoes Young Fast Optoelectronics increased shipment for capacitive touch panels, aided by the sales of smartphone technology from consumer electronic companies.
