A US semiconductor manufacturer has announced that its Terahertz (THz) diode monolithic microwave integrated circuit's foundry process is to be offered to meet client requirements for millimetre-wave transceivers.

Global Communication Semiconductors (GCS), based in California, had until now only offered the component as a discrete devices to customers.

However, GCS chief executive Jerry Curtis said that the company's engineering team had "overcome the technical challenges by developing a planar Schottky diode process with THz performance."

He added that the "fully monolithic" approach, which incorporates several features including a thin film resistor, is to be offered to clients "as a standard process".

It is said to be ideal for applications such as mm-wave frequency transceivers and THz imaging systems.

The company specialises in services to wireless telecommunication firms as well as high-speed networking and fibre optical industries.

It will demonstrate its new component at the International Microwave Symposium in California, which runs from May 23rd to 28th.
