&lt;span&gt;Optoelectronics firms that make components for smartphones may be interested to know that mobile networks need to embrace voice over internet protocol (VoIP), according to an expert.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Steven Hartley, principal analyst at telecoms research specialist Ovum, believes that operators such as Vodafone or T-Mobile are making a mistake in trying to wait for beyond 3G technology before offering it to users.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;With customer demand currently being so high and Ovum&amp;#39;s recent warning for networks to be wary of the threat posed by VoIP brand Skype, Mr Hartley suggests that it can advantageous to confront the issue head on.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;He said the suppressing such innovations in the light of consumer clamour for the feature would be &amp;amp;quot;a waste of time, money and effort&amp;amp;quot;.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Last week, Taiwanese optoelectronics firm Hon Hai announced that it would benefit from the forthcoming release of the iPhone 4G on the global market, Taiwan Economic News reported.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Meanwhile, another of the country&amp;#39;s manufacturers, Chimei Innolux, is set to produce the LCD touch panels for Apple&amp;#39;s new smartphone release.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=19794352"&gt;&lt;img alt="ADNFCR-1785-ID-19794352-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=19794352" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
