A US semiconductor firm has unveiled six new hyperfast rectifiers designed for use in consumer electronics applications.

Pennsylvania-based Vishay released its FRED devices, which feature an ultra-low typical voltage drop of one volt at rated current as well as fast recovery times of as little as 16 nanoseconds in "hard switching conditions".

The manufacturer suggested that its new application offers energy-efficient power connection for a variety of appliances including laptops, printers and televisions in addition to game controllers and power supplies for DVD or Blu-ray players.

Furthermore, it says low voltage frequency, low recovery current and optimal stored charge are "designed to minimise conduction and switching losses, improve application efficiency and reduce electromagnetic interference generation".

Clients can now obtain samples of the new rectifiers, with lead times of up to 12 weeks for larger orders.

Vishay is a producer of discrete semiconductors and passive components for a range of industries including computer, automotive and military sectors.
