A US electronics manufacturer has unveiled two new LED driver integrated circuits (ICs), which it has stated will deliver flicker-free dimming and a similar user experience to using incandescent illumination dimming switches.

California-based Power Integrations has released the LinkSwitch-PH and LinkSwitch-PL, both of which feature single-stage power factor correction and the company believes it has overcome the Achilles heel of diode-based luminaires, their "driver circuitry".

Bill Weiss, Power Integrations lighting business development manager, suggested that both products are ideal for space restrictions that LED components need to meet in replacement lamps.

"Both devices reduce system bill of materials count and size, thereby increasing system reliability. These ICs enable designers to optimise system efficiency and meet or exceed all regulatory standards," he added.

Power Integrations was set up in 1998 and, since that time, the firm claims it has saved around $4.1 billion (£2.8 million) in potentially wasted energy through its eco-friendly lighting and LED luminaire offerings.
