New switches from NXP Semiconductors offer support for both USB 3.0 and PCI Express Gen 3, making them the first such devices to do so according to the manufacturer.

Its CBTU04083 line-up of high-speed switches promise to maintain signal integrity at high levels by minimising skew and crosstalk, as well as supporting the latest protocols for rapid delivery of data.

Joe Kochanski, marketing manager for interface products at NXP Semiconductors, says: "Given the high level of interest in USB 3.0, which delivers more than ten times the speed of USB 2.0, there is significant demand for high-performance computing products."

He adds that forward-thinking designers are equipping products with such capabilities, while PCIe Gen 3 takes the connectivity rate from Gen 2's 5 Gbps to 8 Gbps.

The firm is headquartered in Eindhoven in the Netherlands but, with a combined workforce of about 28,000 people, is active in 25 countries worldwide.
