Wireless audio 'to drive demand' for semiconductors

Summit Semiconductor expects to see demand for its audio semiconductors driven by the growth in wireless audio for use in surround sound systems.

Newly spun off from parent firm Focus Enhancements, Summit Semiconductor specialises in developing integrated circuit (IC) technology to be incorporated into products such as wireless speaker systems.

President and chief executive Brett Moyer says: "With the explosive growth of flat-panel digital televisions, 3D animation and game systems capable of decoding 5.1 and 7.1 content, analysts anticipate significant growth in wireless audio solutions."

He adds that his company's semiconductors are able to provide for instant calibration of sweet spots and automatic set-up.

The firm's audio ICs are marketed under the Summit Wireless brand, with the FS848 said to enable wireless audio fidelity at a standard higher than that of wired speaker systems.

Summit Semiconductor adds that the chip was specifically designed to overcome some of the common difficulties encountered in setting up home speaker systems and distributing the audio signal.
