Light sensors help cordless keyboard save power

A new wireless keyboard from Logitech is equipped with light sensors to help save its battery power during daylight hours.

When ambient light conditions fade, the keyboard is fitted with its own backlight, helping the user to continue working or gaming into the night.

The onboard battery is good for about ten days between charges, depending on light conditions, the company says.

When its charge is depleted, an integral USB cable allows it to be plugged in - meaning the device can continue to be used and its power supply replenished.

Denis Pavillard, vice-president of product marketing for Logitech's keyboards and desktops, says: "The Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800 is perfect for someone who values both form and function."

The incorporated PerfectStroke keyboard system promises "whisper-quiet" typing with comfort and fluidity, the manufacturer adds.

Meanwhile, proximity sensors also adjust the backlight, switching it on when hands approach the keyboard and off when it is not in use.
