&lt;span&gt;Netherlands-based NXP Semiconductors claims to have created an integrated circuit capable of extracting 30 per cent more photovoltaic (PV) power from a solar panel than conventional pulse-width modulation (PWM) devices.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;The semiconductors developer explains that its MPT612 uses maximum power point tracking, or MPPT, to improve on the efficiency of power reclamation from solar installations.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Jan Willem Vogel, senior director of industrial applications marketing, says: &amp;amp;quot;Compared to traditional PWM controllers, MPPT controllers can extract up to 30 per cent more power from a solar PV panel.&amp;amp;quot;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;The chip is said to be well suited to a variety of consumer electronics applications for solar power, including garden lighting, traffic signals and portable battery chargers.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;NXP Semiconductors was formed officially in 2006, before when it was part of the Philips Group.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;However, despite its relative infancy in its own right, the company draws from five decades of experience in developing semiconductor devices.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800040976"&gt;&lt;img alt="ADNFCR-1785-ID-800040976-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800040976" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
