North America 'the hero' in Q2 sales of switches

Switches and routers saw substantial growth in sales in North America during the second quarter, reports Infonetics.

The analyst calls the continent the "hero" of the market for switches and routers during a three-month period of stagnation elsewhere.

In Europe, for example, the devices face buyers who appear locked into a holding pattern, with little movement in either direction.

But North American markets are recovering from the recession at a double-digit pace.

Michael Howard, co-founder and principal analyst for carrier and data centre networks at Infonetics, says: "IP core and edge router revenue in North America was the hero of the second quarter, up 15 per cent sequentially and up 39 per cent from this time last year."

The climb compares with a market described as "bouncing off the bottom" 12 months ago.

In the second quarter of 2009, sequential growth of seven per cent was recorded, while activity was said to be down substantially year-on-year at that point.
