Cobham Sensor Systems (CSS) has secured a contract worth $17.4 million (£11.55 million) with a US firm to provide devices for military applications.

Raytheon Missile Systems has contracted CSS to provide sensors for use in its ground-to-air and ground-to-ground missiles.

"This award is a further indication of the strong technical and business relationship that exists between CSS and Raytheon Missile Systems," claimed Andy Humen, president of CSS.

He added that the continuing cooperation between the two firms is testament to leading positions within their respective sectors.

Elsewhere, Engineer Live has reported that OpenHydro is also planning to invest in sensor technology as part of its development of hydroelectric tidal generators.

It will use surface acoustic wave sensors to determine the tolerances of bearings that will be used in the final product.
