New phototransistors and photodiodes from Vishay add to the company's existing range of optoelectronics suitable for detecting near-infra-red and visible light.

The broader spectral range is available on the photodiode, at a spectrum spanning from 350 nm to 1,120 nm - the full range of visible light and much of the infra-red range.

Meanwhile, the phototransistors offer a slightly narrower operational band from 470 nm to 1,090 nm.

Available in surface-mount packages of gullwing or reverse gullwing design, the compact detectors measure 2.3 mm square, with a depth of 2.8 mm.

Both of the new products are said to be more resistant to moisture than equivalent optoelectronics, whose sensitivity may mean they must be used quickly once opened.

Rather than requiring to be fitted within 72 hours of the protective packaging being removed, they can be used up to four weeks later.

They are also compatible with environmentally friendly principles such as halogen-free and lead-free production, the manufacturer says.
