High-voltage LEDs 'offer greater efficiency'

While energy efficiency improvements in lighting often focus on reducing the voltage input required, Cree claims that increasing it can actually have the desired effect in LEDs.

The developer of technology which puts LEDs to work has applied that principle in its latest innovation, high-voltage lighting solutions for space-constrained applications.

At voltages of up to 20 V, the MX series of LEDs support light output of up to 139 lumens at 6,000 K and 114 lumens at 3,000 K, falling to 122 and 100 lumens respectively at 10.7 V.

Director of marketing for LED components Paul Thieken says: "With the addition of these products, Cree continues to deliver the industry's highest-performance application-optimised LED components to the lighting design community."

Among the advantages of the MX series cited by the developer are high colour consistency, efficacy and reliability.

In addition to the efficiency benefits, Cree says LEDs can also last longer and look better than conventional lighting, as well as cutting maintenance costs.
