Firms 'want staff' with knowledge of electronic components

Individuals with an understanding of electronic components are in demand as companies look to bolster their in-house IT expertise, it is suggested.

David Fleming, associate director at recruitment specialist Badenoch & Clark, explains that, historically, the structure of the IT sector was such that most people would work as contractors.

But now, more companies are keen to bring their IT teams in-house, rather than relying on the availability of skilled contractors at the time that they are needed.

"Most organisations want to move towards having a more stable and permanent workforce in their IT provision," Mr Fleming claims.

In turn, the opportunities for permanent employment among individuals with a good knowledge of electronic components are increasing.

Mr Fleming adds that it could be "interesting" to see what happens if contractors are reluctant to move into permanent employment in a tightening temporary market.

But he anticipates that many will embrace permanent positions, ensuring that the balance between supply and demand remains stable.
