US investment bank JP Morgan has released a research report which focuses on the semiconductor industry.

In the report, the bank upgraded Analog Devices to Overweight from Neutral and raised Analog Devices' price target.

Elsewhere, the investment bank downgraded Linear Technology from Overweight to Neutral and maintained Linear Technology's price target.

"Our previous Overweight rating on Linear was due to the company's superior track record of outperformance during inventory corrections and a nice revenue boost due to its design wins in the iPad," the bank said.

"However, it appears the inventory correction has already occurred in most semiconductor end markets, and Linear recently lost the iPad business, which we estimate represented roughly seven per cent of [second quarter sales in 2011]."

Meanwhile, Osram Opto Semiconductors, a subsidiary of Siemens, has developed a powerful light-emitting diode (LED) for use in the cultivation of plants, physorg.com reports.

The new LED emits a deep-red light at a wavelength of 660 nanometers - and is perfect for plant photosynthesis, the manufacturer explained.
