An American firm, which makes photodetectors as well as visible and infrared light-emitting diodes, has launched the OD-624L high-output red LED, Semiconductor Today reported.

It is, in fact, the second product to be introduced in Opto Diode's high-output LED series.

The new product boasts a dominant emission wavelength at 624nm (typical). In addition to this, it features a narrow beam angle that suits fluorescence in medical, scientific testing instruments, and forensic applications.

According to the manufacturer, the OD-624L high-output red LED delivers total power output ranging from 80mW (minimum) to 170mW (typical).

Opto Diode Corp, manufacturer of the new OD-624L high-output red LED, was founded in 1981.

Meanwhile, Bridgelux, a frim which specialises in making commercial lighting using LEDs, recently raised around $21 million (£13 billion) in its latest round of funding.

In order to quell fears about how stable the technology is, the firm decided to offer a five-year warranty on all of its light fixtures late last year, Reuters reported.
