Smartphones 'enjoying huge commercial success'

An internet entrepreneur has observed that wireless communication devices, like smartphones, have enjoyed a huge amount of popularity over the last eighteen months.

Writing for the Liverpool Daily Post, Ben Hatton noted the enormous popularity of iPhones, Nokia C3s and HTC Desires.

This year, it is forecast that a quarter of all mobiles sold will be smartphones, thereby fuelling the revenues of technology giants.

"Google is currently riding high on the back of news its Android platform has become the most popular system during the last quarter, taking over from the previously dominant Symbian," Mr Hatton noted.

"From a consumer point of view," he added, "this is probably neither here nor there, but it is something of note for the technology industry."

The HTC Desire runs the Android operating system, version 2.2 "Froyo". And although it bears a strong resemblance to the Nexus One, it differs in some features.
