Infonetics Research has revised its forecasts for sales of wireless communications services upwards for both the short and long terms.

The analyst explains that reports for the first half of 2010 indicate above-expectation revenues.

As a result, it is predicting a market value for wireless communications services including voice, messaging and mobile broadband of $870 billion (£550 billion) in 2014.

Stephane Teral, principal analyst for mobile and fixed-mobile convergence infrastructure at Infonetics Research, says the recession led to uneven growth in different regions of the world.

"Only the western European telecom services market was significantly affected by the economic crisis - and still struggles to recover as Greece, Ireland, Italy, Spain and Portugal continue to suffer," the expert notes.

Mr Teral has over two decades of experience in telecommunications, having joined Infonetics Research from fellow analyst RHK in January 2006 after helping to develop the firm's coverage of the European optical market.

Posted by Simon Jones
