Sensors 'make light work of luggage'

An innovative new suitcase uses sensors in its wheels to detect when it is going uphill - and switches on motors to assist the person carrying it.

When it is being pulled along the ground, rather than lifted up completely, the Live Luggage Sports Bag, which is designed and manufactured in the UK, has a number of "anti-gravity" features.

These include a specially designed handle to position 85 per cent of the case's weight over the wheels, reducing the strain on the carrier.

But the sensors in the special powered-wheel version of the case could be a particularly novel addition in many people's opinions.

They allow "pan-cake motors" to switch on in the wheels themselves, powering the case up hills with less demand on the owner.

A total of three separate components complete the case kit, including a rucksack, a large soft case and a weekend bag, which fasten together on the powered trolley.
