Samsung Semiconductor Europe appoints new PR agency

Samsung Semiconductor Europe has appointed EML as the tech PR agency to help promote near-field comms (NFC) technology.

The electronics giant entered the NFC market in December 2010, when it began manufacturing a component that allows people to use mobile phones to pay for goods by touching a reader in-store.

According to the firm, the new technology will reduce the need for cash and credit cards.

PR shop EML will help boost take-up of the new technology among European customers.

Thomas Arenz, head of marketing and comms at Semiconductor Europe, commented: "Following the launch of our NFC product, we are in a position to start communicating with the market in Europe and promoting the topics that are important to the NFC industry."

Earlier this week, NXP Semiconductor launched a Cortex-based microcontroller portfolio, newelectornic.co.uk reports.

The firm explained that the LPC1200 Industrial Control Series is targeted at industrial applications.

Geoff Lees, general manager of NXP's microcontroller product line, told the news provider: "It's a rugged series, tuned more for industrial use and less for battery powered applications.

"We have made it more robust at the expense of standby current."
