Wireless communications customers may be interested to hear that the dual-screen Kyocera Echo smartphone will be available on Sprint April 17th with a two-year contract, it has been confirmed.

Through Sprint, customers will be able to start reserving the Echo on March 26th via sprint.com/echo, for pickup on April 17th, pcmag.com reports.

The smartphone will also be available in Sprint stores and online on the same day.

The Kyocera Echo features two, 3.5-inch 800-by-480 LCD touch-screen displays that can operate side-by-side, independently, or together via a 4.7-inch integrated display.

This comes shortly after research found that Western wireless firms are making inroads into the Japanese mobile market.

According to comScore, sales of Microsoft, Google, Apple, RIM and Palm devices rose by 33.5 per cent between September and December 2010.

The firms are therefore able to reach 6.9 per cent of the total mobile audience - just under seven million people.
