Semiconductor firm reveals plans to higher new designers

Samsung Austin Research Center (SARC) has revealed its intention to hire 30 chip designers in 2011.

In addition to this, the Center confirmed that it will move mid-summer to a location independent of the Samsung Austin Semiconductor site.

Keith Hawkins, vice-president of Samsung Austin Research Center, commented: "The growth of SARC since it was founded a little more than a year ago has been remarkable."

He added: "What started as a nimble team has evolved into a full-fledged Austin-based chip design center."

Launched in March 2010, SARC currently employs approximately 80 front-end and back-end chip designers.

These new hires are, SARC confirmed, supplementary to the 300 engineers and technicians that the company is hiring in the first six months of 2011.

The recruitment drive comes as part of the $3.6-billion expansion of the semiconductor's plant.

Samsung Austin is owned by Samsung Electronics and is the company's only semiconductor manufacturing plant located outside Korea.
