General Electric set to present overhead LED light fixtures

Next week, General Electric will present overhead LED light fixtures designed to replace florescent tubes with thin, flat plates of light to the public.

According to a report appearing on cnet.com, the firm will announce the new line of LED Edge lighting fixtures, which can be suspended from ceilings.

At the end of this year, a square troffer fixture design for recessed lighting will be made available, while more attractive suspended fixtures are slated for release in the first half of 2012.

"We're providing lighting designers and end-users with innovative fixture styling and optical control that's customized to serve their very specific application and illumination requirements," commented Jaime Irick, president and chief executive of General Electric Lighting Solutions.

He added: "Some of our biggest commercial customers are already thinking about how to put these systems to work."

LED fixtures are more attractive and long-lasting alternatives to overhead fluorescent lights, the firm will say next week.
