Google's Nexus to get 3rd generation model

In news that may be of interest to wireless communication device manufacturers, it has been confirmed that Google's Nexus handset range is to get a 3rd generation model.

According to Andy Rubin, senior vice-president of Mobile at Google and head of their Android arm, Google are keen to continue to deliver the hardware benchmark for phones carrying the operating system.

"The Nexus has been the thing that we used to set the bar, and there's always going to be new ones coming out in the market," he remarked.

"We'll make an announcement at some point in the future."

In other industry news, Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 will be the best-selling smartphone operating system by 2015.

This is according to a report by Pyramid Research, which found that Windows Phone 7 currently has a share of less than ten per cent of the market.

Android is the best seller at present, with a 45.4 per cent share of the market.
