&lt;span&gt;A new report by market research firm ElectroniCast Consultants has revealed that global consumption of packaged LEDs used in signage and professional displays rose 17 per cent from $1.3 billion in 2009 to $1.52 billionn in 2010.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;The firm also said that it expects to see consumption grow to $2.781billion in 2016.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;&amp;amp;quot;This application category includes covers LEDs that are used in stationary and vehicle-based signs and displays,&amp;amp;quot; Stephen Montgomery, president of the LED market research group at ElectroniCast, explained to Semiconductor Today.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;He added: &amp;amp;quot;LEDs are used in building facades, large outdoor video screens, digital billboards, sport/stadium displays, small indoor retail displays, food displays, signs on taxis and destination signs on mass-transit vehicles, channel-lettering/light-boxes, and LED/LCD TV screens.&amp;amp;quot;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Meanwhile, Evident Technologies and Samsung Electronics Co have signed a comprehensive patent licensing and purchasing agreement for Evident&amp;amp;#39;s quantum dot LED technology.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;The agreement will see Samsung granted worldwide access to Evident&amp;amp;#39;s patent portfolio for all products related to quantum dot LEDs from manufacture of the quantum dot nano-materials to final LED production.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Posted by Andre Dixon&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800526884"&gt;&lt;img alt="ADNFCR-1785-ID-800526884-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800526884" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
