ON Semiconductor opens new global distribution centre

ON Semiconductor has opened a new global distribution centre in Singapore, which is expected to process an average of 50 million units per day.

The new facility, built and implemented in association with DHL, has opened at a cost of $3.5 million.

According to ON Semiconductor, more than half of the 38 billion devices it produces and ships annually are expected to pass through the centre.

John Nelson, ON Semiconductor executive vice-president and chief operating officer, commented: "Singapore was an ideal location for this distribution operation because it offers a centralised regional location with close proximity to our customers and to our manufacturing, assembly and test operations located in South Asia."

Oscar De Bok, DHL supply chain chief executive officer for South and South-east Asia Oscar added that the new distribution centre will set the benchmark for global fulfilment in the industry.

The new facility will create a clear competitive advantage for ON Semiconductor, Mr De Bok said.
