HTC reveals rise in May sales

Wireless communication device manufacturer HTC has confirmed that its sales for May reached £860 million, more than double the same month a year earlier.

The monthly sales of the Taiwanese firm compared with £400 million a year ago and £820 million in April.

Ever since HTC started to predominantly produce handsets for Google's Android mobile operating system, it has seen sales improve dramatically.

HTC began to shift its core focus away from Windows Mobile devices to devices based on Android operating system in 2009.

Samsung Electronics, meanwhile, has predicted that its 2011 smartphone shipments in Taiwan will double from last year.

This comes on the back of high-tier models running Google's Android software.

"With the expectation to double our worldwide shipments of the Galaxy S II in 2011 from the previous version, we hope the new model will achieve the same goal in Taiwan this year," Andy Tu, general manager of the mobile communication team, remarked.
