&lt;span&gt;Broadbandchoices.co.uk has suggested that there is still a regional gap in the UK when it comes to broadband, wireless communication device manufacturers may be interested to learn.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Recently, Ofcom acknowledged that rural areas in the UK tend to have lower broadband speeds.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;According to Michael Phillips, product director for Broadbandchoices.co.uk, there needs to be more leadership from the government to narrow the digital gap.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;&amp;amp;quot;In terms of how you fix it,&amp;amp;quot; Mr Phillips explained, &amp;amp;quot;it needs leadership from government [and] investment from government, because commercial organisations will invest in infrastructure and exchanges where they know they are going to get a return on their investment.&amp;amp;quot;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;He added: &amp;amp;quot;It is up to the government to plug those gaps and it is what we need as a capital economy.&amp;amp;quot;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Earlier this month, Ofcom confirmed that, across the UK as a whole, 68 per cent of UK premises have a fixed broadband connection.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Posted by Simon Jones&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800616746"&gt;&lt;img alt="ADNFCR-1785-ID-800616746-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800616746" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
