&lt;span&gt;In news that may interest wireless communication device manufacturers, almost half of American smartphone owners have used their device to assist in some part of the food shopping process.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;This is according to a study released by Deloitte, which also found that one-third use their mobile devices in the supermarket.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Some 34 per cent used the device in store to research food product information, while 43 per cent used their smartphone to manage a food shopping list while not in a store.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Earlier this week, Juniper Research suggested that the number of smartphones sold by 2016 could reach one billion, wireless communication device users may be interested to learn.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Sales of handsets will surge by 230 per cent, up from the 302 million sold last year.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Daniel Ashdown, author of Juniper&amp;amp;#39;s smartphone report, observed that most popular phones are likely to be economy models with an unsubsidised retail value of less than $150.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Posted by Andre Dixon&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800630660"&gt;&lt;img alt="ADNFCR-1785-ID-800630660-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800630660" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
