Smartphone users must realise that they must take secondary precautions in relation to protecting their phones.

This is according to Tony Neate, managing director of Get Safe Online, a joint initiative between the government, law enforcement, leading businesses and the public sector.

Mr Neate explained: "What is available now to most people who use smartphones is protection [which works] a bit like putting anti-virus and security packages on their PC and their laptops."

He added: "Depending on which smartphones they have, they need to be thinking about those additional precautions."

Mr Neate observed that we are likely to see more of these types of attack, saying: "I think these things will occur as we require more resources from our mobile phones and more functionality."

Criminals will use their activity to target those mobile phones and smartphones, wireless communication device users have been warned.

The initiative aims is to provide computer users and small businesses with free, independent, user-friendly advice.

Posted by Andre Dixon
