&lt;span&gt;Nearly one in three smartphone users believe that texting on smartphones is just as important as making and receiving calls, according to a new study.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Research by YouGov, conducted on behalf of Firstsource Solutions, revealed that 27 per cent of smartphone consumers say making and receiving calls is the most important function.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;However, 26 per cent said that texting was their primary reason for using a phone, Mobile Today has reported.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Furthermore, the study found that women are more avid texters than men.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Santanu Nandi, Firstsource Solutions&amp;amp;#39; telecom and media division executive vice-president, asked: &amp;amp;quot;Who could have predicted when mobile phones were first introduced that texting would become as important a part of our lives as making and receiving calls?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;&amp;amp;quot;This new data proves that texting is still thriving on smartphones and predictions of its decline due to new technologies such as instant messenger and social media were premature.&amp;amp;quot;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Posted by Andre Dixon&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800639485"&gt;&lt;img alt="ADNFCR-1785-ID-800639485-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800639485" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
