&lt;span&gt;Some 35 per cent of US adults now own a smartphone, new research has suggested.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Pew Internet and American Life Project observed that smartphones are gaining ground in the US market, wireless communication manufacturers may be interested to learn.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;This is because, the firm explained, wireless providers are pushing smartphones over cheaper, simpler &amp;amp;quot;feature&amp;amp;quot; phones.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Some 83 per cent of US adults own a cell phone of any kind, with simpler &amp;amp;quot;feature phones&amp;amp;quot; remaining the most popular type of mobile device.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Earlier this week, LG lowered its target smartphone sales targets for 2011, wireless communication device manufacturers may be interested to learn.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;LG reduced its forecast from 30 million down to 24 million smartphone sales.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;&amp;amp;quot;Our overall performance is gradually improving ... but it&amp;amp;#39;s difficult to give a precise prediction when our business will turn around due to a fast changing external market environment,&amp;amp;quot; commented Park Jong-seok, head of LG&amp;amp;#39;s handset division.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Posted by Andre Dixon&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800619829"&gt;&lt;img alt="ADNFCR-1785-ID-800619829-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800619829" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
