Huawei set to launch first own-branded handset in UK

Huawei, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has confirmed that its first own-branded handset could hit the UK as early as next month, rival wireless communication companies will be interested to learn.

Thus far, the firm has focused its efforts on producing handsets for carriers.

But this is set to change, with Huawei preparing for the introduction of the Huawei Blaze, which will run Google Android.

"We're trying to establish the brand, almost from scratch," Mark Mitchinson, Huawei's UK executive vice president, explained to Bloomberg.

He also said that the handset will compete with "anyone involved in Android."

Furthermore, Huawei has announced that it will launch the Vision smartphone in the UK along with its Mediapad tablet PC.

Stuff magazine claimed last week that the popularity of the Android operating system is largely down to "the diversity of hardware available" for the platform.

Will Findlater, editor of Stuff magazine, observed that "the sheer weight of support for Android from manufacturers" means "there are Android phones from all the different manufacturers catering for all different needs and budgets".
