Samsung announces new NFC smartphones

Wireless communications device manufacturer Samsung has announced two new near field communications (NFC) smartphones, the Wave M and Wave Y.

The manufacturer confirmed that both of the new phones run the handset maker's new Bada 2.0 operating system.

In addition to this, Samsung said that the devices offer its new ChatOn messaging service and will be available either with or without NFC.

"Smartphones are gaining popularity by the day," JK Shin, president and head of Samsung's mobile communications business, observed.

"The new additions to the Wave portfolio are the first to benefit from the power of our Bada 2.0 platform; the full extent of our commitment is clear to see in each device. We've produced easy-to-use smartphones that will inspire the market."

This comes shortly after Conrad Longmore, editor of Mobile Gazette, suggested that the inclusion of NFC is likely to have a positive impact on the popularity of Blackberry 7 phones.

He explained that NFC can be used for payments, airline check-ins, gaming or as a way to advertise products.
