Wireless communication device users will be among those interested to learn that Amazon has finally unveiled the much-vaunted Kindle Fire, which is predicted to rival Apple's iPad.

Costing £130, the new device will run a modified version of Google's Android operating system.

Although the Kindle Fire is entering an intensely competitive market, experts have suggested that it could soon emerge as the dominant brand, thereby overtaking the iPad.

Commenting on the new release, Will Findlater, editor of Stuff magazine, explained: "It's the price and the backup services that make it really exciting."

He added: "Content is the big differentiator. It's what every other platform has been lacking, except the iPad."

Amazon has already been successful with its Kindle device. However, the new Kindle Fire boasts a broader range of capabilities.

One of the Kindle Fire's main advantages is that, unlike many rival tablets, it is relatively inexpensive, meaning that it may attract those consumers who cannot afford the iPad.

Posted by Simon Jones
