Facebook responds to cookies controversy

Social network site Facebook has told wireless communication device users and others that it has fixed cookies that could have tracked users after they logged out of the website.

An Australian blogger who analysed the site's use of cookies for over a year suggested that Facebook might still be able to track members' browsing even after they have logged out.

But in a statement to the BBC, Facebook denied any wrongdoing.

"There was no security or privacy breach - Facebook did not store or use any information it should not have," the social network site explained.

"Like every site on the internet that personalises content and tries to provide a secure experience for users, we place cookies on the computer of the user."

Facbeook, of course, recently announced a series of changes to improve the capabilities of the site, with experts suggesting it was a response to Google's launch of a rival social network.
