Speculation is rife in the technology world that Apple will launch the newest version of its iPhone series at an event in San Francisco tonight (October 4th).

The iPhone, of course, has made a huge impression on the wireless communications device market since the first of the phones was launched.

And it is expected that the new device, which has been the subject of speculation for months, will prove to be hugely influential.

Let's Talk iPhone is likely to be led by Tim Cook, Apple's new chief executive who recently replaced Steve Jobs earlier this year.

The launch of the new phone will be critical for Mr Cook, who faces an unenviable task in trying to replace Mr Jobs.

Since it was launched in 2007, the iPhone has emerged as Apple's most successful product, with more than 20 million being sold in the second quarter of this year.

Rumours are also suggesting that Apple will make an announcement regarding developments with the iPod.
