&lt;span&gt;Research in Motion (RIM), the manufacturer of the BlackBerry device, has confirmed that it has seen its second-quarter profits more than halve.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;RIM announced that net profit was $329 million (£208 million) for the three months to 27 August, down from $797 million in the same period a year earlier, wireless communication device users may be among those interested to learn.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Some 10.6 million BlackBerry smartphones and around 200,000 Blackberry PlayBook tablets were shipped during the quarter - which is significantly below analysts&amp;amp;#39; expectations.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;The announcement saw RIM&amp;amp;#39;s shares fall by ten per cent in after-hours trading in New York.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;In other industry news, Samsung recently filed a patent complaint against Apple in France, arguing that its US rival infringed on three mobile technology patents in the iPhone and iPad.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;A Samsung spokeswoman confirmed that the French case is based on &amp;amp;quot;three technology patents, and not on the design of the tablets&amp;amp;quot;.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Posted by Andre Dixon&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800732138"&gt;&lt;img alt="ADNFCR-1785-ID-800732138-ADNFCR" src="http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&amp;amp;itemid=800732138" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
