Google opens social network service to everyone

Search engine giant Google has confirmed that its new social network, Google+, is being opened up for users who join after two-and-a-half months in closed testing, wireless communication device users may be interested to learn.

Initially, the site was solely offered to journalists and people working in technology-related roles.

But Matt Rhodes, a social networking specialist from Fresh Networks, suggested that the new service is likely to appeal to businesses.

"Brands know that a lot of people who come to them come through search and anything they can do make themselves come up through the right terms or higher up the rankings is important," he commented.

"Commercially that is the opportunity."

The launch of the new service has prompted action from some of the search engine's major rivals, including Facebook, which has just rolled out a number of innovations.

Indeed, Facebook announced a revamp of the social network's friend system, designed to ensure it is easier to add people to categories.
