Nokia announces loss in Q3

Nokia, the mobile phone giant, has reported a loss in the third quarter of 2011, wireless communication device users may wish to know.

The news comes at a time when Nokia is coming under pressure from rival manufacturers.

Nokia announced a net loss of 151 million euros (£132 million) in the three months to September.

This is in contrast to the 322 million-euro profit the firm made in the same period last year.

"I am encouraged by our progress around the first Nokia experience with Windows Phone," Nokia boss Stephen Elop commented.

"We look forward to bringing the experience to consumers in select countries later this quarter."

Earlier this week, Apple, the world's largest technology firm, reported a net profit for the year to September 25th at $25.9 billion (£16.5 billion), up 85 per cent from the previous year.

The figures are the first published since the death of co-founder Steve Jobs.
