Wireless communications device manufacturer Microsoft has confirmed that it has secured licence deals with companies "accounting for over half of all Android devices".

Addressing the issue via its official blog, Microsoft said that Compal, the Taiwanese firm, has become the latest manufacturer to pay it for each device sold using Google's system software.

And according to Microsoft, it now has patent agreements with ten companies covering their use of Android.

The vast majority of these agreements have been struck over the last four months.

Meanwhile, Microsoft recently announced that it is ready to launch Mango-powered handsets from the likes of Nokia, Samsung Electronics and HTC over the coming weeks.

The market is currently dominated by Apple and Android. Microsoft, however, has failed to take advantage of the increasing popularity of wireless communication devices thus far.

But the firm seems ready to take up the challenge at last with the launch of its Mango operating system.

Posted by Andre Dixon
