It has been done before, but I really want to make a clock like that of Lord Vetinari.

There already have phase of the moon clock and watch.

Maybe a clock or watch which can point out where the moon is rare idea.

I would love to make a nixie tube clock. I really loved the nixie displays when I was first starting out and love the retro look of the projects.

A few years back, a mechanical engineer friend of mine wanted to build a sidereal clock. In case you're not familiar, wikipedia says:

Sidereal time /saɪˈdɪəriəl/ is a time-keeping system astronomers use to keep track of the direction to point their telescopes to view a given star in the night sky. Briefly, sidereal time is a "time scale that is based on the Earth's rate of rotation measured relative to the fixed stars"^[1] rather than the Sun. A mean sidereal day is 23 hours, 56 minutes, 4.0916 seconds (23.9344699 hours or 0.99726958 mean solar days), the time it takes the Earth to make one rotation relative to the vernal equinox. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidereal_time

I considered the idea and it seemed like it should be fairly straightforward using a microprocessor and some sort of a display. However, that was long before the days of Raspberry Pi so it didn't proceed past the idea stage.

- A NFC chip in the clock for one-touch setting from smart-phone.

I am working on a clock build right know. It is just a basic clock but the digits are big enough to see without my glasses - so cheaper too.

It's not very electronic, but I'l wanted for some time to build an analog clock that instead of moving hands, it turns wheels with a stationary "window" indicating the time.

I've been thinking about making an alarm clock to help us wake up on the dark winter mornings when the sun doesn't rise till late morning, or when the clouds are so thick the sun doesn't seem to rise at all.

The idea is that instead of making noise it simply turns on a strip of RGB LEDs to simulate a summer sunrise.

Ooh, and RPi has easy audio, so adding soothing bird songs should be easy too.
