To clear solder traces between tracks I use resistors/capacitors legs or a wire rather than using desoldering wick.

Usually I work late and many times simple components like resistor, capacitors were out of stock, I search for damaged circuits to get components from there.

I use SMPS of computer to supply 12v/5v/3.3v to my circuits. I bought it specifically to drive my project circuit boards.
Also, I remember using aluminium foil to make contacts (when I didn't had soldering iron/wires), used it numerous times in making tight contact between batteries in a remote or for other things.

Top tip I can give is careful visual inspection of boards or things that are faulty.

It is amazing how many faults can be spotted this way without any need for test instruments.

Solder:

After solder 0603 or 0402 elements use tip push from each pad make sure there are no cold joint.

Test:

Use DMM check Vin and GND are not short before power up.

Coding:

Google and copy-paste is your good friend.

Some pretty cool tips!

One thing as a newbie I have to keep reminding myself is that for us US side people, change your keyboard layout for Raspberry Pi when loading a clean OS. :-)

You can use sudo raspi-config or edit the etc/default/keyboard file to XKBLAYOUT="us"

My advice:

Buy commonly used cheap parts in advance so you have them when you need them.

These electronic bits are all small enough to fit into a small drawer (or cabinet if you're hoarding doing it right), so it's not a burden.

Make sure that all of your surfaces are clean.

Soldering goes very easy when the iron is hot and the tip is clean.

Once you learn good soldering techniques they will help you make good products.

The best tip I can think of is to test for boundary conditions: ie. take account of worst-case component tolerances, max and min voltages, etc. The circuit you build on breadboard, or your first prototype may well work fine - but then in manufacture, some boards will likely fail.

Make sure to solder with a steady hand. If you have had to much coffee or are to tired do NOT work on your project till you are well rested or not hyper. if you are not focused on the task at hand you can really mess up your work.

When tinning a wire, wrap solder around the wire and then use the soldering iron to melt the solder. After a few times, you'll get a feel for how much solder to use so there's no excess.
